Cedar Lake Surgery Center Leader in Revolutionary New Sinus Procedure
BILOXI, MISS. -- With signs of spring and allergy season in the air, a radical new sinus procedure offers hope to ending pain and suffering for chronic sinus sufferers.

Dr. Raymond Weiss, founder and medical director of the Sinuplasty Center of Excellence, is performing a revolutionary new sinus procedure, called balloon sinuplasty™, at the Sinuplasty Center of Excellence located within Biloxi’s Cedar Lake Medical Park.

According to Weiss, the new technique, which was recently debuted on ABC’s World News Tonight, is revolutionary because it minimizes the amount of surgery and quickens the recovery time for patients.

“Balloon sinuplasty™ is used in patients with chronic sinus headaches or pain. In many cases, we are seeing that balloon sinuplasty™ appears to be more effective than conventional sinus surgery,” he said. “There are no incisions or cutting and no bruising or swelling, allowing many patients to return to work in just a day or two.”

A tiny, thin balloon similar to an angioplasty balloon is used to open the sinus passages. As in heart vessels, the balloon is placed into position and inflated, then deflated and removed. The result is a permanent widening of the critical areas leading into the sinuses while leaving the nose lining unharmed. In most cases, the sinus openings are significantly widened because the balloon has actually remodeled the delicate bones and spread them apart – all without pain.

The procedure was first introduced to the United States in April 2005. Only six physicians in the world were chosen by the balloon manufacturer to conduct the initial trial procedures, with Weiss being one of them. Weiss performed the second case ever and has now conducted more balloon sinuplasty™ cases than any other physician in the United States.

Because of his experience with the new procedure, earlier this year he was chosen to train a hand-selected group of ENT physicians from all over the country. He plans to continue teaching the procedure so that everyone will have access to getting sinus relief no matter where they live.
